"Village Prostitute" is a drama film adapted from Shen Congwen's classic novel "The Husband", directed by Huang Shuqin, starring Zhou Hong and Zhao Jun

The story takes place in a poor area in western Hunan. Due to the difficult geographical environment, people have formed a custom that the husband stays at home Farming, while the wife went to the city to do business, became a prostitute, and solicited business on the whore boats by the river. Ah Qi has been working in this industry for more than a year. Her husband's life at home has improved, but he only lives with pigs and cows every day, and his life is monotonous. This simple and honest countryman came to the city and saw his wife's struggling life, and his heart could not be calm for a long time. He saw his wife with other men's husbands, and every day a different man. Just when her husband was trying to calm down, the oil merchant Boss Zhang wanted to buy Ah Qi as his concubine Xiaofang. The husband was shocked and very angry when he heard the news. So he got drunk and gambled, only to lose everything. Then he took Ah Qi's night as a bet, and if he lost, he would run away.
