"Beautiful Sister" is a family ethics film directed by Hao Jie. The film tells the emotional entanglement between the rural youth Tie Dan on the Loess Plateau and the neighbor Mei Jie's family. Tiedan was born in a small remote village on the Northwest Loess Plateau. His neighbor is Meijie, a woman with three daughters. Tiedan liked her very much, and made up his mind when he was very young that he would marry Miss Mei as his wife when he grew up. Sister Mei took her daughter to a man who was working outside. Many years later, Tiedan grew up. Sister Mei and her husband also returned home with their three daughters. Tie Dan fell in love with Mei Jie's eldest daughter. But the poor Meijie betrothed her eldest daughter to the Inner Mongolians in exchange for cattle and sheep. Tiedan couldn't afford to get sick. Sister Mei married her second daughter to Tie Dan. As a result, Tie Dan and her second daughter had no feelings for each other and were very resistant, so she ran out and joined the troupe. Because the two sang well, Tie Dan soon became the head of the troupe. The third daughter, who wanted to learn acting, secretly ran out to find Tie Dan and became an actress. Slowly she fell in love with her brother-in-law. But Tie Dan knew that he could not harm the third daughter, because he was already married to the second daughter
