一个看似波澜不惊的夜里，芬·谢帕德和前妻艾波乘坐飞机准备去纽约。就在大家都休息的时候谁知道途中竟会遇到猛烈的鲨卷风，什么是鲨卷风就是狂风当中有很多很多的鲨鱼。一条条凶猛的鲨鱼撞破机舱，飞机当中很多人都死了。在这个危机时刻，谢帕德操纵了飞机，终于将飞机降落到了地面上解除了危险。但是前妻艾波却落下终身残疾。芬·谢帕德预言鲨卷风即将袭击曼哈顿。而正如主人公所预料的那样，鲨卷风席卷了曼哈顿。而芬·谢帕德的妹妹艾莲一家正居住在曼哈顿。为了救自己的妹妹，也为了救曼哈顿成千上万的民众，芬·谢帕德毅然决然准备去曼哈顿，告别了前妻芬·谢帕德走向了营救之路。
