"One Life" is a historical action film produced by Shochiku Eika, directed by Takashi Miike, written by Kikumi Yamagishi, Ebizo Ichikawa, Starring Eita, Yakusho Koji, Hikari Manshima, and Naoto Takenaka. Adapted from Yasuohiko Takiguchi's novel "Roninji," the film tells the story of a poor samurai's quest for dignity

The main character in the film, Tsugumo Hanshiro, is a samurai with a difficult life, and he hopes to die in a dignified way. So he asked to borrow Jing Yi's mansion to perform seppuku. However, in order to prevent him from committing suicide, Saito, the elder of the royal family, told him the story of a ronin Qianqianyan who came to ask for a borrowed house to cut seppuku, hoping that Jinyun Hanshiro could change his thoughts of suicide. Although shocked by the tragic fate of Qianqianyan's begging daughter, Tsugumo Hanshiro insisted on dying with dignity.

When he was preparing to cut seppuku, he made a final request, asking for the assistance of the three deputies of Saito Persuasion, but the three Absent due to various coincidences. Saito persuaded Yuu to be angry about this and doubted his motives, and asked Tsukumo Hanshiro to explain. The latter confessed his relationship with Qianqianyanqiu's daughter, and recounted their life full of joys and sorrows. In the end, Saito persuaded Yuu to understand that Tsukumo Hanshiro did this for revenge. The whole story takes the dignity and honor of the samurai as the theme, and explores human nature, life and death, and the meaning of life.
