主人公侦探龙马镜拥有一个特殊的能力，就是自己如果接触到尸体或者是死人的遗物的时候，可以使死者灵魂的图像出现在自己的大脑中。这样能力使得他能够快速的破解各类案情。龙马镜和一个被别人夺走诺贝尔奖的高级科学研究所研究员组成搭档，一起破解案情找到凶手。他们各自利用自己的能力和经验来破解杀人案。然而，在破解案情的过程当中，所有的案件都指上了一本神秘的预言书，上面记载了某些人的死亡时间。而书上写的这些人就一定会在这个预言书上写的时间内死亡。两人一直想揭秘事情的真相，想知道这本预言书到底是怎么来的，是由谁来写，并且这些人为什么会在固定的时间内被杀。
