林觉民是广州起义失败的先行者，虽然最终是以失败告终，可却鼓舞了无数的革命先烈前赴后继，林觉民在起义之前给父亲和妻子写下的书信也成为了千古绝响。故事发生在1905年，林觉民迎娶了陈意映为妻，两人的婚姻是美满幸福，可林觉民却并没有为了小家忘记大家，在1911年发动广州武装起义之前，林觉民就主动参加了当时的第一批敢死队。而此时的陈意映二胎已经即将生产，林觉民也和家里人吃了最后一顿饭，看着面前的妻子还有未出生的孩子，他心中也百感交集，父亲深明大义，早就看出了林觉民的不寻常，但却并未挑破，而是希望他能平安归来。林觉民在起义前天晚上，给妻子和父亲写下了家书，早已将生死置之度外，看着同志们一个个倒下去，林觉民心痛不已，林觉民最终被生擒，可也因为不屈不挠而被枪杀
