《电话》这部电影讲的是两个生活在不同时间线上的女子，因为一通电话而发生的惊悚故事，书妍因为母亲患上脑瘤而回到了老家，并且在火车上遗失了自己的手机，在这个时候他回到了老家，在自己的老家座机上接到了一通电话，电话中的女孩声音急促，像是受到了自己母亲虐待一般
在自己的老房之中，女主发现了一本日记，这本日记讲述的和刚才接到的电话大致相同，在日记里夹杂着90年代末韩国偶像的写真，也有一张日记主人的照片，由此想到这通电话来自于1999年，也是女主的老家这栋房子所发出的电话，从电话中他得知女孩受到了母亲疯狂的虐待，虐待的理由包括很多，想要在20年之后逃脱母亲的魔掌，就必须要通过这通电话来讲述，故事也在由此慢慢的展开。
