阿梅作为死者的女儿，在父亲去世之后，回到了台湾的老家，在面临父亲去世的悲伤情绪中，还得腾出心思面对繁琐的丧葬习俗和更加令人难以置信的丧葬仪式。而这些都是在家里人和和邻居的相互扶持下才得以下来，而这些也从而体现出了在这个村子里浓厚的团结意识和人情味儿。他回到城市进行工作，他在四个月期间沉浸在工作中，不去想父亲去世的这些事情，不愿去揭开内心的伤疤。这样也就让他暂时的逃离和麻痹自己，而这样却只是暂时的，还是会在某一个时间段就想起父亲去世的现实情境，由此对父亲的想念也涌上了心头。
