影片主要讲述的是丧尸病毒大爆发之后的世界。在这个世界当中，幸存的人类在艰难地生活着。而在一个平凡的家庭里面一位父亲正在为自己刚刚降生的女儿寻找新的家园，但是这个父亲在逃出的时候因为没办法同时避开众多的丧尸群而被感染。在感染之后，这个父亲仍然保持着自己仅存的一点人性，带领着自己的女儿从沙漠之中孤身前往澳大利亚。在行走的过程中，这位父亲的体内的病毒也不断地扩散。在经历了一次又一次的生死考验之后，这位父亲仍然将父爱作为自己的力量，并且成功地击退一次又一次病毒对自己人性的泯灭。
