在1948年的春天，山东英雄连的连长尚铁龙率领自己的部队攻打鞍山，尚铁龙和对面敌人互相僵持着，国民党连长杨寿山高举白旗，走到路中间要求和尚铁龙谈判，尚铁龙在回去的路上遭遇袭击，他的夫人麦草和他的儿子在得知他已经去世的消息时候，急忙赶往鞍山，但就是没找到丈夫尚铁龙的尸骨，只看见了被挖开的坟墓和一块牌子，尚铁龙又活了过来，养好了自己的病，回去后才知道妻子与儿子要去接收他的尸骨，就这样一家子彼此间音信全无，他的妻子决定边工作边寻找丈夫的消息，趁着在工厂上班的时机，麦草进一步认识了杨寿山杨寿山对她无微不至的照顾，让她渐渐对他产生感情，尚铁龙正巧遇到杨寿山和麦草结婚的日子，就这样三个人的故事就此展开
