故事的男主出生在陕北，他从小就听自己的父亲常常提起天安门。高考失利后，他带着仅有的500独自一人来到了北京。他想在这里看看天安门，遇到一个可以和自己携手一生的爱人，梦想很美好现实很残酷。来到北京后，他遇到了很多挫折，北京之旅没有他想象的美好
在这里他偶遇了女主，女主性格豪爽，她帮助男主人公在北京立稳脚跟，两人发生了很多啼笑皆非的故事，他在北京不知不觉间漂泊了20年。这20年间他见识到各种性格各异的北京女孩。在工作的过程中经历了各种困难，但是他从来不放弃，努力的在北京生存，慢慢适应了北京和陕北的生活差异。适应了快节奏的生活，也见证了中国这20年的巨大变迁。最终在这里奋斗出了自己的一片天地。
