"Happy Ghost (Cantonese)" is a Hong Kong comedy film released in 1984. Starring Huang Baiming, Luo Mingzhu, Li Lizhen and Gao Zhisen, it is directed by Gao Zhisen. The film tells the story of Zhu Xiucai in the Qing Dynasty, who felt frustrated after failing to win the top prize many times, and finally chose to commit suicide. However, his soul could not be reincarnated, and was attached to the hemp rope used in suicide. Time came to Hong Kong in the 1980s. Three high school girls broke into the temple where Zhu Xiucai committed suicide during a trip, and accidentally brought back the hemp rope with Zhu Xiucai's soul, which triggered a series of funny stories.

The story begins in the Qing Dynasty. His father died, and his wife also left him. Finally, he chose to hang himself from a beam in the temple, but his soul did not leave, but was attached to the hemp rope he used to commit suicide.

Back to the 1980s, the modern society of Hong Kong. Three high school girls Lin Xiaohua, Lin Qingqing, and Yan Ruyu encountered a storm during a trip, and had no choice but to break into the temple where Zhu Xiucai committed suicide to avoid the rain. When leaving, Lin Qingqing accidentally brought the hemp rope with Zhu Xiucai's soul back to the place of accommodation. As the exchanges deepened, the three girls gradually discovered that there was a soul attached to the hemp rope, and this soul was Zhu Xiucai.

The soul of Zhu Xiucai and the three girls became unexpected friends. Confiding their hearts made it clearer about their respective future paths in life.
