在2009年加拿大籍的记者巴哈里作为美国新闻周刊的驻伊朗记者，报道当年的伊朗总统大选，选举结束之后，他的竞争对手支持者在街上游行巴哈里拍，下了这场名为伊朗绿色革命的抗议活动，在6月21日，他从德黑兰的家中被带出去，经历了118天的监禁和折磨，在118天之后获得了释放，对方称之为伊朗的间谍，由于自己的双眼被蒙住，他看不清任何的审讯人员的能够闻到他身上的嘴脸，只玫瑰香水味，本片的片名也由此而来，这部电影改编自一部真实的事件，也是由于书中所记载拍摄的内容相当真实。
