圭二向恋人芳子坦白说出了结婚的打算，然而，芳子因为比圭二年长而犹豫不决，拒绝了他的求婚
芳子得到了新上任的公司社长大川的任命，成为了他的秘书。大川邀请芳子前往伊豆的别墅度假，并嘱托她找一名代替休假中专职司机的司机。芳子想起了大学时圭二曾在汽车俱乐部，于是推荐了圭二作为临时司机。
当天晚上，芳子和圭二在一家居酒屋约定见面。圭二正在和同事山下一起喝酒。芳子看到了山下，不敢相认，悄悄离开了居酒屋。而圭二并没有注意到这一幕。
之后的日子里，圭二和芳子之间产生了一些误会和距离。芳子以为圭二并不在意年龄问题，而是觉得他对她不够坦诚。而圭二则以为芳子拒绝了他是因为年龄的关系，对此感到自卑和困扰。
Keiji confesses to his lover Yoshiko that he intends to get married. However, Yoshiko is hesitant because he is older than Keiji and rejects his proposal
Yoshiko was appointed by the newly appointed company president Okawa and became his secretary. Okawa invites Yoshiko to go to the villa in Izu for vacation, and asks her to find a driver who will replace the full-time driver during the vacation. Yoshiko remembered that Keiji was in the car club when she was in college, so she recommended Keiji as a temporary driver.
That night, Yoshiko and Keiji agreed to meet at an izakaya. Keiji is drinking with his colleague Yamashita. Yoshiko saw Yamashita, didn't dare to recognize each other, and quietly left the izakaya. Keiji didn't notice this scene.
In the days that followed, there were some misunderstandings and distance between Keiji and Yoshiko. Yoshiko thought that Keiji didn't care about age, but that he was not honest enough with her. Keiji thought Yoshiko rejected him because of his age, and felt inferior and troubled by it.
