本部电影主要讲述的是在1983年斯洛伐克有一个小学来了一个新的老师。这位新的老师在做事风格上，以及对学生的惩罚上非常的雷厉风行。虽然上任时间不长，但是已经遭到很多问题学生的抵制。对于问题学生犯错，女老师的意见就是能够惩罚，让他们认识到自己的错误。但当时政治势力盘根交错，再一次惩罚中，一个学生自杀，也让该名女老师进入到政治审问的环节中。
