麦考尔曾经是一名中情局的秘密特工，一个冷酷的职业杀手，但是他已经隐姓埋名多年，成为了一名司机。政府探员苏珊是他唯一的朋友，两人的感情就像姐弟那样，因此苏珊是唯一知道麦考尔还活着的人，两人一直保持联系。这天，苏珊被上级召唤到布鲁塞尔，调查一名特工的自杀案件，但是也因此和麦考尔失去了联系，敏锐的他认为苏珊已经被人杀害。确定苏珊已死，麦考尔想要去调查苏珊的死亡真相，他不得不重出江湖找到当年的大党约克。经过他们的调查发现，他们曾经的同事和这个案件有千丝万缕的联系，苏珊死亡也是因为调查到特工之死并非自杀。曾经的同事变成了自由杀手，他们的任务就是杀死苏珊，因此麦考尔不得不与曾经的朋友和同事反目成仇
