剧情主要描写了在1850年年末的时候，洪秀全在广西金田创立拜上帝教，揭竿而起，反抗清朝，反抗帝国主义。1851年洪秀全自封天王，率领反抗军东征西讨，他的妹妹洪宣娇喜欢太平军的将领林凤祥。洪秀全全面考虑之后，还是把妹妹嫁给了萧朝贵。后来，经历包围永安，突破桂林。在攻击长沙的时候，萧朝贵战死沙场，洪宣娇因此新婚丧偶自己受到非常大的打击。在经历一系列大战之后，太平军终于占领金陵，定都这里，有了自己的根基，但是因为自身的局限性，太平天国运动最终失败。

However, due to its own limitations, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement finally failed.
