In the film, Jew Louis Einsen lives with gay lover Prior Walter. However, when Prior found out he had AIDS, little was known about the disease, Louis could not bear the tremendous psychological pressure and chose to leave the other party. Meanwhile, on the other side, there's a Republican lawyer named Joe Pitt, who's a Mormon while trying to curb his homosexuality. Joe is faced with a promising job opportunity, but hesitates because of his personal beliefs and sexuality.

As the story progresses, Prior discovers that he is often visited by ghosts and angels, while Joe struggles with conflicts between his beliefs and his sexuality. Louis regretted abandoning the one he loved deeply, and he was always condemned by his conscience. Joe's mother, Hannah, moves to New York after learning that her son is gay, hoping to take care of her daughter-in-law. At the same time, Roy Kang, a gay man, was hospitalized with AIDS and was cared for by Belize, a black gay man who was a friend of Prior's and used to be a dress show. In the end, a person who had been persecuted to death by the Communists also became a ghost and came to take revenge on Roy Kang.
