艾尔·西蒙斯(Al Simmons)是一个美军中校，是一个骁勇善战的部队精英，也是一个完美的杀手，上司派给他很多暗杀任务都完美成功，但是因为和上司杰森关系出现裂缝，在一次非洲的执行任务时被设计杀害，报仇的决心和对妻子旺达的四年，让他无法安眠，于是把自己的灵魂卖给了地狱魔王，成为再生侠。魔王毁掉了他的容貌和记忆，艾尔凭借断断续续的记忆碎片和对妻子的四年，带着丑陋的身躯和无穷的力量在坟墓中重生。再生侠回到人间已经是五年以后了，他凭借着本能在纽约展开惩奸除恶的行动，引起了公众的猜测，同时也引起了地狱杀手小丑的注意
再生侠凭借记忆碎片找到了爱妻，发现她已经嫁给了自己省钱耗油特瑞，还生了一个女儿。再生侠伤心之际小丑前来挑衅，两人大打出手却旗鼓相当，魔王迫不得已出面再次给再生侠疗伤，重伤了小丑。

He sold his soul to the Lord of Hell and became Spawn.
