It tells the story of two maids, Sue and Maude. Sue and Aunt Sucksby lived in a dirty and thieves-ridden place, while Maude was taken home by his uncle who wrote obscene novels for a living. Mr. Lilly tried to turn Maud into a cold-blooded "secretary" who had no freedom, and abused her to satisfy his hobby of collecting obscene books. Richard is an idle thief. Hearing that Maude's mother left a legacy, he decides to defraud the property by cheating on the marriage. He found Su, and sent Su to approach Maude with a benefit of three thousand pounds to achieve the purpose of defrauding property. During the process of their relationship, they developed feelings for each other, but they dared not say it out. This feeling was more complicated and confusing because of their different situations and Su's utilitarian purpose.
